EDGETAK PRESS RELEASE

EDT Unveils EDGETAK: Revolutionary Man-Wearable Computing Solution for Tactical Edge Operations

Rugged NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX Carrier Brings Unprecedented Edge Computing Power to Special Forces
and Field Operations

Hillsboro, Oregon – April 16, 2025 – EDT today announced the launch of EDGETAK, a groundbreaking man-wearable computing solution designed for military and tactical edge applications and special operations. Powered by NVIDIA’s Jetson Orin NX platform, EDGETAK delivers powerful processing capabilities in a lightweight, passively cooled, battery-powered form factor that can be deployed directly in the field.

EDGETAK represents a significant advancement in tactical edge computing, enabling operators to process complex data and run advanced AI applications in real-time without relying on network connectivity or remote processing capabilities.

“Today’s challenges demand immediate data processing and decision-making capabilities at the tactical edge,” said Cameron Kidd, President of EDT. “EDGETAK delivers enterprise-grade computing power in a rugged, wearable package that won’t weigh down operators or compromise mobility. This is a valuable tool for operators that need to process sensor data, run AI analytics, or deploy advanced applications in austere environments.”

Purpose-Built for Tactical Deployment

EDGETAK was developed with direct input from operators to ensure the system meets the rigorous demands of field operations while maintaining a value-conscious price point.

Key features include:

  • Superior Modularity: Easily integrate tactical and AI/ML applications with versatile connectivity
  • Leading Return on Investment: Optimal balance between performance and component cost delivering the best value to feature profile on the marketplace
  • Superior Thermal Performance: Industry leading thermal profile
  • Optimal Kit Fit: Designed to fit flexibly on-body including existing radio and magazine pouches
  • Open Platform: No proprietary software or licenses; the platform is open for customizing the application stack, giving operator full control and mission flexibility

Enhanced Capabilities Coming Soon

EDT also announced plans to release an enhanced version of EDGETAK this summer featuring an integrated Software Defined Radio (SDR) with a frequency range of 30MHz to 8GHz and up to 80MHz of instantaneous bandwidth. This addition will significantly expand the system’s communications and signals intelligence capabilities for specialized missions.

“The forthcoming SDR-equipped version will enable operators to conduct spectrum monitoring, signals collection, and electronic surveillance without carrying additional specialized equipment,” said Jay Soles, VP of Business Development at EDT. “This integration represents our commitment to continuously evolving the platform to meet emerging mission requirements.”

Availability

EDGETAK is available immediately for procurement teams, integrators or partners. For more information about EDGETAK or to schedule a demonstration, please contact EDT at info@edt.com.

Driver Release v6.0

We are excited to announce the release of version 6.0 of our PCI driver package. This release includes major improvements and breaking changes to our 5.x driver package. These changes include:

  • A simplified, lightweight package – The size of the package has been reduced to include only relevant and updated libraries and code examples. Firmware is no longer included by default and are separate .deb/.rpm packages that can be sent upon request.
  • A modern build system – Our driver and libraries are now built with CMake.
  • Open source licensing – Our Linux driver is now licensed as GNU GPL 2.0 and our user space libraries and applications are BSD 3-clause.
  • Deprecated legacy product support – Support for our legacy products has been deprecated. These products will continue to be minimally supported by our 5.x, bi-annual driver package releases. A complete listing of products supported by the 6.0 package is listed here.
  • Deprecated support for legacy OS’s – The driver will no longer support Solaris, VxWorks, Apple, pre-3.10 Linux kernels, and Windows prior to version 10.
  • Deprecated support for 32bit Windows – The driver will only support 64bit Windows systems.

Our team is happy to support your transition to this new version of the driver. Please send your questions to tech@edt.com.

Edgepoint.AI

“Configurable I/O meets inference at the edge”

Engineering Design Team (EDT), a leader in high-speed I/O interfaces, brings the power of machine learning and AI (artificial intelligence) inference to the edge with edgepoint.ai. This highly configurable platform pairs EDT’s I/O expertise with a NVidia Jetson Xavier NX to get the intelligence you need, when and how you need it. Make your vision, telecom or radio frequency (RF) applications smarter and more efficient at the edge by augmenting them with machine learning capability. The edgepoint.ai comes standard with NVMe storage, and pairs seamlessly with EDT’s Camera Link, 10GbE, VITA-49, RF interfaces, or your own custom interface via a Gen 3 PCIe slot. EDT’s AI pipeline software makes integration, and experimentation with your data pipelines and AI models simple and dynamic. Change the type of I/O, preprocessing or data model without having to change platforms each time. Build new or integrate with existing systems to add more intelligent analysis, capture, and/or survey capabilities. Whether you’re creating a prototype in the lab or deploying at the edge the edgepoint.ai is an all-in-one solution that can be fully and easily integrated into your data path. Edgepoint.ai is manufactured in the US and EDT prides itself in high quality engineering. With over 35 years of design services experience we can also make custom modifications to meet your exact specifications. Edgeblade SSA

“Next generation data storage and playback”

The Edgeblade SSA (Snapshot Storage Appliance) is the perfect solution for your data analysis and storage needs. Designed as a drop-in replacement for Engineering Design Team’s (EDT) original 10G record and playback solution (WRAP10G), the Edgeblade SSA adds the density, speed and flexibility of up to 64TB of fully removeable/replaceable NVMe SSDs powered by EDT’s Mako NVMe carrier board. Four independently operable 10G ports allow you to synchronize or record and playback multiple data streams simultaneously for optimal signal analysis capability. The Edgeblade SSA automatically detects incoming data rates/standards including 10GbE, STM, OTN, and VITA-49 and optionally allows recording of data as PCAP for 10GbE streams. The Edgeblade I/O interfaces include FPGA resources for framing, aligning and descrambling of data streams. EDT’s recorder software features a web-based user interface for both local and remote access and operation, and a REST API for easy integration into your own scripts or applications. Import your existing files at 10Gb rates or record new data at the edge. Have a custom or legacy data type without a current solution?
