EDT at Vision 2014, Stuttgart, Germany

2014/11/08: From November 4-6, 2014, aided by our German distributor SkyBlue, EDT exhibited at Vision Messe in Stuttgart, Germany – our fourth time in a row to exhibit at Vision Messe and our first time since the schedule changed to every two years. This year we displayed our newest VisionLink series Camera Link PCIe framegrabbers, as well as a sneak peak at our soon-to-be-released VisionLink RCX.

The VisionLink framegrabbers are compact, low cost, and high performance. The VisionLink F1 is intended for base and dual base mode support and can support aggregate bandwidths of up to 400MB/sec in a Gen2 PCIe1x slot. The VisionLink F4 is intended for the full range of the Camera Link specification, including support for 85MHz/80-bit cameras, and can handle up to 850MB/sec in a Gen2 PCIe4x slot.

The VisionLink RCX, set for release in 2015, currently supports base mode cameras at up to 85MHz – an improvement over our established and popular RCX C-Link, which was limited to cameras operating up to 80MHz.

Along with these products, we had our PCI DV C-Link, PMC DV C-Link and cPCI DV C-Link Camera Link framegrabbers on display as well. All of our Camera Link framegrabbers are supported by a freely available API/SDK for Windows, Linux and MacOS, which includes utility applications and their source code for easy and open access for all software developers.

The show was busy and it’s always interesting to see what is going on in the wider machine vision market. USB3 has garnered a lot of industry support, but for more demanding imaging applications it seems that Camera Link is still the most reliable and popular interface. CoaXpress has enjoyed years of a head start on Camera Link HS, but it is still too early to tell if either of these interfaces will dominate the high-end imaging market… or if some other future interface will be able to take the lead!

Heartbleed statement

2014/05/05: Heartbleed [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heartbleed] is an OpenSSL bug which has generated a number of news reports and some customer inquiries. EDT’s software, drivers and website do not use OpenSSL, so they are not vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug.
